Andrea Beth Damsky

I just had some strong confirmation of this message last night. There are two issues that have long lessened my happiness made my life more difficult. And now I am seeing the silver lining in those clouds.

One is the fact that my marriage to my same-gender partner is not legally recognized other than the state in which we got married; we have little legal protection available to us as a couple, as a family. The second is that I have a chronic illness which limits my abilities to work and have reliable ease of movement. I have been denied health insurance coverage because of it.

I was talking to a lawyer about bankruptcy options, and these two issues came up. Here are the silver linings... our unrecognized marriage protects my spouse and her assets from any collections or credit injury. My chronic illness makes it more possible to have a large amount of student loan debt discharged, whereas this kind of debt is usually not forgiven in the slightest, in bankruptcy proceedings.

My sweetheart and I have been together for 9 years. I have had this illness since 1978. Now, 30 years is a long time to wait, for divine order to reveal itself, but as soon as I got off the phone, I knew with undeniable clarity that God had been looking out for my best interests all along. And I was (and am) grateful and at peace.

Wow, Andrea, what a great example of standing for Divine Order while also practicing 'purposeful patience.' I appreciate your sharing this. 9 years and 30 years. Yes, a long time to wait for sure.
